Most years, Carter Lemon Camerons Partner, Seamus Smyth visits South Africa for meetings and presentations with attorneys and clients on issues relating to English law.
This year, the global pandemic has meant that Seamus has had to remain in the UK. However, to keep South African attorneys and clients in the loop he will dedicate a whole week to being “virtually” in South Africa from 17 to 21 August 2020.
Individual Consultations
During the “SA Week”, Seamus will be available for no-obligation, informal video calls on matters relating to the UK and English law and for those who just want to chat and exchange gossip.

PRAATJIE-BY-ZOOM
The centre-piece of South Africa Week will be his informal, light-hearted (possibly even faintly amusing) praatjie on Instructing English Solicitors, updated. Two colleagues with SA connections will assist, to relieve the monotony.
The praatjie will cover points including:
- The 14+ points at which English & South African law and procedure collide
- (and one where they coincide)
- The confusing jurisdictions in and around the UK
- A few time-saving hints about instructing English solicitors
