Lawyers from a leading City of London Law firm have been engaging with UK-Polish legal issues by attending a trio of events on the considerations involved in the international, social and economic relationship between the UK and Poland.

Aleksandra Kowalska, a Registered European Lawyer at Carter Lemon Camerons LLP attended the English-Polish Law Day in Warsaw last month, which was organised by the Bar Council of England and Wales, the Warsaw Bar Association and the Polish Bar Foundation.

The conference addressed matters including criminal and family claims, the European Arrest Warrant, the division of marital assets and the divorce-related circumstances of children.

Later in May, Kate Boguslawska, a partner in Carter Lemon Camerons LLP and Aleksandra, attended an event organised by the Polish Embassy in London, where they heard from Krzysztof Szubert, Minister of Digital Affairs.

On 6 June, lawyers from the firm attended a further event at the embassy: Poland as a Hub for Innovation.

Kate said: “Since Poland’s accession to the European Union in 2004, the number of Polish nationals in the UK has risen to approximately 984,000, giving added importance to the relationship between the two countries.

“The increasing number of Polish nationals in the UK also means that there are many more cross-border business and personal ties, causing cross-border legal issues to increase in complexity and in number.

Aleksandra added: “The English-Polish Law Day was a great opportunity for legal professionals from both countries to engage with the matters that this and the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union creates.”

Kate said: “Here at Carter Lemon Camerons LLP we have been engaging for some time now with UK-Polish cross-border legal and business matters.

“These events were an excellent opportunity to think further about the changing legal implications of the close relationship between the two countries and I know that delegates found this useful.”
